Fresh Apricot Season Has Arrived!

We have all come to know and love the Blenheim Apricots that have been grown at B&R Farms for over 96 years. But did you know that we now offer an additional variety of apricots called Bonny Royals?
For the last few years, we have been growing this new variety to test out how it compares to the Blenheim. Now we want to share the differences we have discovered so you are more informed when you come to pick your own fresh apricots.
The most important question we think you’ll ask is “what apricot is the sweetest”? After a lot of sampling and polling with our customers, it seems to come down to personal preference. Both apricots share that sweet yet tart flavor, but our customers and staff seem to be divided 50/50 about which fruit is sweeter.
The main physical difference between the two is Bonny Royals are a slightly larger apricot that have a more reddish-orange color. Blenheims are mostly orange with a small patch of red in one area while there’s more of a red blend throughout the Bonny Royal.
A key point to remember is that Bonny Royals are ready later in the fresh fruit season. With that being said, we suggest coming to one of our U-Pick events at the beginning of July for Blenheim Apricots and then coming to another U-Pick closer to the end of July to pick your Bonny Royals.
If you would like to pre-register for one of our U-Pick events taking place every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in July from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. please click here to reserve a time slot. We will also have limited quantities of pre-picked fruit available in the store all month long. Hope you come by!
